UPets Grooming

This review is in response to Linda Sleight's review regarding the Maltese who she had stated was taken to the Vet due to an alledged eye injury. Listed below are videos of the Maltese who was groomed in the grooming room and footage with the owner taken from the interior store cameras. At Urban Pets our top concern is the care and wellbeing of your pet. Please watch the video footage. We contacted Linda, the Maltese owner, by phone and and asked her which eye had been injured. Linda would not respond. We asked Linda if we could contact the Veterinarian she had taken the Maltese to for treatment regarding the alledged injury, and again Linda refused to respond.

I have been bringing my maltese for grooms at Urban Pets for about a year. When my neighbour found out she begged me not to take my dog there, as the groomer Anna cut her little dog's ear so badly she had to have stitches. I should have listened to my neighbour. Today I took my Maltese for a groom and he came home and couldn't open his eye more than a slit. I could tell he was in pain and called Anna the groomer. She said he must have hurt it in the back seat of our car. What an insult to my intelligence. We had to rush him to the vet and the vet informed us that he definitely had trauma to his eye and was in pain. He had an ulcer from a serious poke to his eye. Would anyone in their right mind believe that he threw himself against the back seat of the car which he would never do. This Anna is an arrogant woman who will not take responsibility for her lousy grooming. Meanwhile the vet gave him drops and said he hopes it will help his eye but we may have to return because there is quite a bit of damage. Exam: $84.00 - Fluorescein eye stain: $32.00 -Tobramycin: $26.50 = $142.50. Anna the groomer charged us $115.00 to damage my dog's eye. My little dog is 23 months old. Please don't take your dogs there for grooms! The day will come that this groomer will eventually hurt your dog. My daughter is an exceptional groomer, but unfortunately she lives in Ontario.

Urban pets seems really nice with such a wide variety of high quality products that seem to be thoughtfully selected without too much quantity. It was cool to learn about Mo Greens in the raw food freezer where the owner told me how it's calming. She was very helpful and welcoming the whole time

I took my Mom's Havanese Yorkie to Anna for the best haircut of his life! He is a very difficult breed to groom and she did an AMAZING job! He was getting compliments from across the street! Years later I finally got a Havanese Yorkie of my own and there was nobody else that I trusted more for her first puppy cut! I am a professional dog trainer, and my pup means the world to me. My puppy was matted due to the heat and a huge mess, and as always, Anna was a miracle worker! She took her time and gave a very clean and precise shave for such a squirmy puppy! She even took on extra clients during the heat wave to save as many lives as she could! Highly recommended! Thank you for caring so much about your clients!

EDIT: In response to the owners response. There is not a word of truth to it, can't believe they won't own up to it and instead decide to gaslight and call me abusive. The dog they are referring to in their rebuttal is not even my dog, I do not have a schnauzer, nor is my dog old, she was a puppy. Thankfully I recorded the entire interaction, I have a witness and I took her straight to the vet afterwards. I will be following up with the authorities and animal protection until this is resolved. The younger staff member who works there was lovely and no one verbally abused her. DON'T TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE. I now believe every single bad review for this business. My daughter and I dropped off our 12 week old Labradoodle at 11AM this morning for an appointment to get washed and groomed. The young woman who met us at the front was very nice and we thought it was going to be a great first grooming experience for our puppy. She said it would take 2 hours and she would call when she was close to being finished. We came back to the store just before 1PM to get her because we were in the area and I had another appointment. When I asked how she was doing, a very irate owner came out and told me it was going to be 4 hours and she had not even started yet. She then proceeded to chew out the young woman for giving me the wrong timeframe. I said ok, let me call my husband and see what we can coordinate so one of us can come back and get her. I made my call and when I went back to talk to her again, my daughter and I saw her slam a small dog down on the grooming table with another female groomer and was raising her voice with the dog saying "get down" "stay down" "stop being so damn difficult". It doesn't take 2 women to hold down a dog that small and the dog appeared to be terrified. We then saw the other woman throw a dog into a cage and my dog was in the corner of her cage cowering. My daughter 10 year old started crying and I went back up to the front. The young woman tried to apologize and I said "This isn't your fault, but I would like my dog back now please". She walked back to get my dog. After a minute, I walked back to the grooming room again and the owner was cutting my dog's nails. I said, "I want my dog now, I'm going to pay and leave I don't care if she's finished”. My dog started yelping and I noticed that all of her nails were bleeding. The owner came up to the front with our dog and rang us in. She was trying to talk about it being a 4 hour appointment and I said "That is not why we are upset. You were abusing those dogs" She said I was holding him because he was trying to jump down. I told her that I saw what I saw. I paid and we took our dog and left. Our puppy cried all the way home, which she never does. It is 2:30PM and she is still sitting with her face in the corner of the room no matter how much we try to comfort her. Her paws are still bleeding... If you love your pets, please do not bring them there. That woman should not be allowed near pets. Thankfully I recorded most of the interaction, and it appears now, after reading some of these reviews, that the owner likes to spin her own side of the story. I sincerely hope that my dog will not be terrified every time she goes to a groomer now, this should never have happened.

Terrible experience. The owner is extremely rude and condescending. I came in to buy cat food and when I asked for a specific brand she insulted my choice and called it “trash.” That is no way to treat customers, especially when not everyone can afford her overpriced products. It is one thing to make recommendations but another to gaslight and belittle people. I will not be coming back and I do not recommend this place to anyone who wants to be treated with basic respect.

I cannot tell you how many groomers we have take our Shorkie to only for her to come back with some sort of missing feature. Not at Urban Pets. Every time our Joba puppy goes in, she comes out cuter with all her features in tact as desired.
